Position: Electric Lineworker A

Lineworker A (U.W.U.A. L#482)

The City of Bay City is seeking a skilled Lineworker A for its Electric Light & Power Department. This journeyman level position involves maintenance, repair, and construction of underground and overhead distribution facilities, sub‑transmission, transmission facilities, and related electrical equipment. The role includes serving as a trouble‑call worker to restore electrical service to customers under adverse conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Construct, maintain, and repair underground and overhead electric distribution and transmission systems, including the installation of poles, cross arms, anchors, underground conduit, wire, transformers, switches, arrestors, insulators, regulators, breakers, structures, lighting, and other related devices.
  • Serve as a trouble‑call worker and work independently to make emergency repairs to restore service; call for assistance when necessary; provide emergency standby service evenings and weekends.
  • Install and replace customer service drops; perform reconnects and disconnects of customer services.
  • Assist in instructing and training apprentices and new employees.
  • Work in compliance with all City safety rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Occasionally assist with line clearance activities.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED, and completion of a recognized Lineworker apprenticeship program.
  • Understanding of construction and maintenance of electric underground and overhead distribution facilities, sub‑transmission, transmission facilities, and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of the operating principles of transformers, regulators, and similar devices and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to climb utility poles and use climbing hooks efficiently.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and work effectively with other employees.
  • Ability to work with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Valid State of Michigan driver’s license with appropriate CDL certification.

Salary: $55.71 per hour.
