Electrical Maintenance Technician

Description

The Electrical Maintenance Technician keeps production equipment, machine controls, and facility systems running safely and reliably. This role combines a strong electrical and controls background with a mechanically focused, hands‑on approach — troubleshooting and repairing PLCs, motor controls, and automated equipment, while also maintaining the mechanical systems that keep the plant running. The Electrical Maintenance Technician works closely with production, engineering, and outside contractors to minimize downtime and keep equipment performing to specification.

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical and controls issues on production equipment, including PLCs, motor controls, drives, and sensors.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems, including but not limited to motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
• Install, wire, and calibrate new equipment, controls, and instrumentation.
• Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLC logic and HMI systems to support production and process changes.
• Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
• Perform routine inspections of electrical panels, motors, and control systems to identify potential issues before failure.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders, parts usage, and equipment history.
• Coordinate with outside electricians, controls integrators, and equipment vendors as needed.
• Support facility systems, including electrical distribution, lighting, and building equipment.
• Follow industry standard safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Proficiency reading and interpreting electrical schematics, ladder logic, and wiring diagrams.
• Working knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell preferred).
• Familiarity with motor controls, VFDs, sensors, and industrial instrumentation.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems, including bearings, belts, chains, and fluid power systems.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic/test equipment such as multimeters and megohmmeters.

• Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills across both electrical and mechanical systems.
• Ability to work independently and respond to equipment issues under time pressure.
• Strong understanding of electrical safety practices, including lockout/tagout.
• Good communication skills to coordinate with production, engineering, and outside vendors.
• Organized with strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping.

• Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver tools, parts, and equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, and climb ladders or platforms to access equipment.
• Ability to work in elevated areas, confined spaces, or overhead positions as needed.
• Ability to work around energized electrical equipment following industry standard safety procedures.

Work is performed on the production floor and throughout the facility, with exposure to machinery, electrical equipment, noise, and typical industrial conditions. May require occasional evening, weekend, or on‑call availability to respond to equipment breakdowns. Required to follow all established safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including arc‑flash rated gear, as required.
