Overview
Senior Construction Manager position based in Bay City, TX. The role involves directing day‑to‑day operations of construction projects, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget compliance, under the direction of the Construction Project Manager.
Responsibilities- Plans, manages, and controls construction activities on the assigned project, including overseeing field operations, site safety, productivity, schedule, quality work, and trade contractor and supplier coordination.
- Assists in the recruitment of construction personnel for the assigned project(s).
- Incorporates safety and environmental responsibility into daily action.
- Communicates positively with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and all personnel.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates the performance and activities of the assigned construction personnel to ensure quality completion of construction services assignments on time and within budget limits.
- Coordinates and controls all construction management activities, including scheduling and claims administration, job progress monitoring and job coordination with multiple contractors for the assigned project.
- Provides internal consultation to construction representatives in project offices and acts as a technical resource to other function groups within the company.
- Employs organizational skills to minimize obstacles that negatively impact the project; uses sound decision‑making/problem‑solving skills when obstacles arise.
- Recognizes the responsibilities of the managerial position and the significant impact on profit or loss and corporate success.
- Assists in estimating and preparing proposals, developing bid strategies, estimates, techniques, etc., reviewing final estimate packages for accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation.
- Provides technical direction in negotiating contracts, change orders, and related matters.
- Manages and administers construction personnel, including budgets, staffing, work assignments, and performance evaluations.
- Integrates technical, business, and human objectives to achieve desired results.
- Plans, staffs, and supervises all project activities through subordinates to ensure a cohesive operational unit.
- Supervises superintendents, quality manager, HSSE manager, project controls manager, materials control manager, subcontracts manager.
- Maintains internal relations with project management, engineering, construction, procurement, corporate functions, and embedded teams.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Management Professional certification from PMI, OR extensive construction experience (minimum 15 years) related to the oil & gas industry, or demonstrated equivalent via experience.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize health and safety of stakeholders and translate this into daily communication and action.
- Experience with environmental regulations related to the oil & gas industry.
- Prior direct experience managing EPC or EPCM projects up to $350 million.
- Downstream petrochemical, energy, or related experience with US Gulf Coast project experience required.
- MS Office (Excel and Word) proficiency.
- Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal/rapport‑building skills necessary to work effectively as a team member and to plan/coordinate processes for results.
- Contributes to a team environment, accomplishing related results cooperatively and supportively.
- Works autonomously without direct supervision.
- Creates an environment of trust and sound decision‑making within the rigors of project execution.
