LOCATION: Bay City, Texas, USA
DEPARTMENT: QUALITY
Purpose:
Support plant metallurgist related to metallurgical aspects of thermo-mechanical production processes.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist with technical queries (TQ) and any internal feasibility analysis request (e.g. from product Engineering, from manufacturing dept), including product downgrade or re-allocation, helping to define capability and limitations from metallurgical point of view for thermo-mechanical processes.
- Assist with defining set-up of processes that involve thermo-mechanical transformations from the metallurgical aspect.
- Support qualifications from the metallurgical point of view of new or modified: thermo-mechanical processes, steel and/or steel suppliers and/or products.
- Follow and implement Failure Analysis protocols for the analysis of internal problems or external claims.
- Monitors performance of thermo-mechanical processes, (e.g., heat treatment reprocessing); analyzing quality indicators to identify process performance and/or product quality.
- Interprets test results and microstructures, and correlates them with material properties and processing history. Experience with SEM/EDS analysis is a plus.
- Analyzes test results, ensuring compliance with specifications, with a focus on steels and their heat treatment.
- Assists in identifying and resolving technical issues related to testing or specimen quality.
- Verifies the application and development of safety standards.
- Complies with Tenaris policies, procedures and management standards, and ensures adherence with all laws and regulations that apply to the area of responsibility.
- Protects from damage, theft or misuse the facilities, equipment and other physical resources assigned to his/her area.
Preferred Experience:
- Hands-on experience or academic exposure in metallurgical/materials testing and/or manufacturing heat treatment processes.
- Familiarity with steel heat treatment processes and structure-property relationships.
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a related Engineering field.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong foundation in metallurgy, particularly with steels.
- Knowledge of structure-property correlations in steels.
- Experience with or understanding of heat treatment techniques.
- Attention to detail and analytical mindset.
- Experience interpreting and implementing manufacturing/quality specifications (such as ISO 9001, API 5CT, etc.).
- Experience/knowledge in metallographic sample preparation and optical microscopy, including SEM/EDS experience.
