Position OverviewLyondell Basell is searching for a Machinist for our High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) manufacturing facility located in Matagorda, TX, 13 miles south of Bay City, TX. The Machinist is tasked to apply their expertise daily in support of a rotating equipment repair shop located at the site. The primary duties of this position are to operate machine shop equipment as well as participate in the disassembly, inspection, repair, and assembly of rotating equipment.
ADay in the Life
- Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co‑workers and promoting a safe work environment; responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.
- Operate machine shop equipment including engine lathes, milling machines, vertical turret lathes, horizontal boring mills, and dynamic balance machine.
- Disassemble, inspect, develop repair scope, perform requisite machining or repairs, and assemble rotating equipment.
- Review assigned job scopes for completeness and understanding.
- Acquire all necessary parts, tools, and instructions prior to starting the job.
- Follow all necessary safety procedures and practices.
- Ensure work is completed per company and industry standards.
- Update supervisor on job progress and any problems encountered.
- Complete all documentation using a computerized maintenance management system.
Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years experience as an industrial millwright.
- Preferred qualifications:
Journeyman Millwright from a recognized apprenticeship program, NCCER Industrial Millwright certification. - Working knowledge of: equipment design and application for machinery such as turbo machinery, process pumps, reciprocating compressors, process fans, and rotary feeders; laser alignment technology and its application; mechanical drawings, P&'s, and mechanical seal drawings; precision measuring tools.
- Effective organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills; ability to interface positively with all personnel on site.
- Independent decision‑making skills, high degree of ownership, and ability to work autonomously.
- Good housekeeping standards.
- Willingness to provide overtime coverage and work plant call‑outs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work outdoors year‑round under various weather conditions; works in a 24‑hour, 365‑day operation.
- Capability to climb scaffolds, towers, vessels, etc.; lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and from elevated platforms; wear appropriate protective equipment.
