Trueline, a long-established, family-owned heavy highway and civil contractor serving major public infrastructure markets throughout the Northeast, is seeking a Junior Estimator to join their team in the Long Island, New York area. This is a career-development opportunity for an estimator who wants to deepen their heavy civil expertise while learning directly from an experienced Senior Estimator and progressively taking ownership of larger and more complex bids.

What

You'"ll Do as the Junior Estimator
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for heavy highway, roadway, bridge, pavement, and related civil construction projects
  • Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, and project requirements
  • Support preparation of competitive bids for public infrastructure projects
  • Assist with pricing labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Support estimating for pavement cutting, groove work, joint and crack sealing, and related scopes
  • Solicit and organize subcontractor and supplier quotes
  • Help assemble bid documentation, proposals, and supporting materials
  • Learn DOT and other public-agency specifications, bidding procedures, and documentation requirements
  • Participate in site visits, pre-bid meetings, and internal estimating reviews
  • Work closely with the Senior Estimator, Project Managers, field teams, and company leadership
  • Maintain organized bid files, cost information, and estimating documentation
  • Develop proficiency with the company's estimating and takeoff systems
  • Progressively take ownership of more complex estimates as your experience grows
  • Build experience with additional scopes, including foundation waterproofing and weather sealing
Must-Haves as the Junior Estimator:
  • Prior construction estimating, takeoff, project engineering, or closely related heavy civil experience
  • Exposure to heavy highway, civil, roadway, paving, bridge, or comparable construction
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to organize multiple priorities and meet bid deadlines
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn estimating technology
  • Clear communication skills and willingness to collaborate with field and office teams
  • Coachable, curious, and genuinely interested in developing into a more senior estimator
  • Desire to build a long-term career in heavy civil construction
Nice-to-Haves as the Junior Estimator:
  • NYSDOT, CTDOT, MassDOT, Port Authority, or other public-agency exposure
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs for roadway, bridge, paving, or infrastructure projects
  • Bluebeam experience
  • Estimating Link or comparable estimating software experience
  • Field experience in heavy civil construction
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • Pavement cutting, sealing, waterproofing, or specialty civil experience
