Job Description
This job is responsible for supporting credit underwriting and monitoring for new and existing clients in partnership with a credit team. Key responsibilities include independently managing low-complexity transactions or portfolios, completing and reviewing credit analysis, evaluating risks, and writing financial analysis. Job expectations include leading the process, ensuring timely and accurate analysis, and coaching teammates on credit requirements.
The Credit Underwriter II (CUII) performs all underwriting tasks for consumer/commercial loan requests to high-net-worth clients of Global Wealth and Investment Management for Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.
The position includes structuring advice to client teams and credit partners, completion of customized credit approval packages, and management of the documentation process. This role interfaces with client teams, credit executives, risk, servicing and legal partners to support the timely delivery of the credit process to market partners and clients.
Responsibilities- Leads the credit analysis process with the support of other analysts and associates
- Partners with Credit Officers, Relationship Management, and Risk teammates to understand structuring needs and requirements
- Monitors operating performance and financial condition, proactively identifying issues and opportunities
- Assists in delivery of financial modeling, loan structure, industry, economic, and other analyses to team members to support the loan decision‑making process
- Reviews work of junior teammates to provide feedback/coaching and ensure compliance with laws, rules, regulations and policy procedure
- May have primary coverage responsibility for a portfolio of clients with limited complexity and credit approval for certain credit actions
- Participate in loan structure conversations and completion of loan documentation with internal/external legal partners
- Underwrite and obtain credit approval for marketable securities loan products, including detailed collateral analysis across control/restricted stock, REIT operating units, exchange funds, and derivative securities
- Partner with Global Wealth and Investment Management client teams to support credit requests, participate in upfront deal discussions, and negotiate loan structures and covenants aligned with creditworthiness and risk appetite
- Proactively manage the deal pipeline to ensure timely progression of new and existing complex transactions or portfolios, completing and reviewing credit analysis, evaluating risks, and writing financial analysis
- 3-5+ years of commercial and/or private wealth management credit experience
- Strong financial analysis, accounting skills, and deal structuring for borrowers with complex balance sheets and income streams
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
- Organized and detail oriented with ability to multi-task, with prior experience in a high-volume production environment
- Proficiency in Word, Excel and Power Point
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build business partnerships with risk, services and client teams who may not be co-located
- Formal Credit Training and/or Commercial/Wealth Management credit experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting or economics preferred
- Experience with marketable securities lending preferred

Pay range: $89,000.00 - $ annualized salary, offers to be determined based on experience, education and skill set.
