Job Summary
The Residential Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct care and nursing services to individuals with disabilities and complex medical needs living in a residential setting. The RN follows the outlined plan of care, identifies health‑related needs, monitors medical status, and reports changes to the on‑call RN or RN Program Director. The RN collaborates with residential staff to support individuals in their community residence and operates within their scope of practice as defined by the Massachusetts Nurse Practice Act, with consideration for MAP or Northeast Arc policy and procedure.
Responsibilities- Utilize nursing knowledge to implement basic preventative care and therapeutic, rehabilitative interventions, following each individual’s protocol and plan of care.
- Conduct regular health assessments (on shift), including vital signs and symptom checks, to monitor individual health and determine nursing needs. Report to and seek direction from the RN Case Manager, RN Program Director, or on‑call RN as needed.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and per MAP regulations, managing medication storage and documentation in compliance with MAP and organizational policies.
- Aid individuals with all aspects of personal care and ADLs, working to maintain a safer environment.
- Provide comprehensive clinical nursing care, including tracheostomy care, enteral (G/J‑tube) feeding and management, medication administration (oral, injectable, and IV), wound and skin care, catheter care, seizure monitoring and management, oxygen therapy, vital signs and health assessments, diabetes management, infection control practices, pain management, emergency response, and ongoing coordination and documentation of individualized care plans.
- Assist in developing and implementing individual specialized care plans, ensuring interventions are carried out as planned and progress is documented.
- Complete and maintain written records as assigned by the Supervisor. Prepare and submit all paperwork promptly, including daily data collection, incident and other event‑specific reports, progress notes, and data summaries.
- Assist the Program Director with scheduling and preparing individuals & documentation for medical appointments, accompany as necessary, and ensure medical orders are implemented per MAP and followed up.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor that may be required.
- Valid RN license in the state of Massachusetts with a minimum of 1 year of nursing experience.
- Preferred experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
- Ability to develop and maintain respectful, caring, tolerant, ethical, and empowering relationships with individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities.
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral, with individuals supported, medical professionals, families, guardians, agencies, and Day Services staff.
- Valid United States Driver’s license and proof of a good driving record.
- CPR certification and completion of required programmatic trainings.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to communicate in English and/or ASL via direct communication and/or by telephone or TTY.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, push wheelchairs, and lift/pull to perform program and personal care tasks.
- Ability to work in the community in a home setting with either multiple residents or an independently living person.
The approximate pay range for this role $45 - $46 per hour.
