Responsibilities- Be the patient’s primary point of contact after they are seen for consult, responsible for coordinating appointments with specialists as needed (e.g., Medical Oncology, GI for colonoscopy, Urology for space Oar/Fiducials).
- Coordinate procedures such as HDR treatments, biopsies, PEG tube placement, fiducial and gel placement by radiation oncology physicians. Guide PAT process, complete necessary assessments and chart completion prior to the process.
- Provide patients and their families with appropriate education and resources based on their disease sites, reinforce information received from healthcare providers.
- Create updates and maintain educational materials such as guidebooks, patient education sheets, room posters, newsletters as needed. Provide emotional support to patients and families coping with cancer diagnosis.
- Navigate patients referred to other centers for surgical interventions back to the department by checking in with patients periodically and building relationships with clinics commonly shared.
- Coordinate patients’ needs with Social Work, physical therapy, audiology, nutrition, smoking cessation clinic, transportation, etc. Serve as point of contact for inpatients for post-hospitalization follow-ups.
- Work with Supervisor to support volume growth initiatives for the Center, attend tumor boards and internal chart rounds, ensure appropriate patients are scheduled for consultation/follow-up accordingly.
- Attend and provide one or more community outreach events per year, coordinating with Supervisor and Cancer Center Manager.
- Collaborate with Radiation Oncology Nurse for patient care, provide nursing coverage during vacations and high patient volume.
- Facilitate maintaining nursing policies, assist in survey readiness process for cancer-related accreditation programs, ensure proper documentation in EMR for tracking.
- Promote, maintain and improve patient satisfaction results via Press Ganey, proactively follow up on problem identification and recommendations for improvement.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating professionally with customers, clients, co-workers, staff, and management.
- Act as an educational resource to staff on all issues related to oncology care, keep up-to-date on new technologies, tests, procedures, protocols, etc.
- Maintain consult tracker and other internal trackers with Supervisor for patient follow-up, quality and performance metrics (e.g., phone calls received, patient flow, turnaround time from diagnosis to treatment).
- Understand and meet corporate compliance program requirements, comply with standards set by department policies, TJC and other regulatory agencies.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
- BSN required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in oncology/radiation oncology preferred.
- BLS certification required, as approved by the American Heart Association.
- OCN certification preferred, or must be obtained within 1 year of employment.
- IV certification required.
Competitive base rates are determined by many factors, including job-related work experience, internal equity, and industry-specific market data. Some positions may be eligible for clinical certification pay and shift differentials. The salary range for exempt positions reflects full-time compensation and will be prorated based on employment status.
