Yard Jockey

Yard Jockey Urgently Hiring

This role is responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers within the facility yard to support continuous loading and unloading operations. The yard jockey operates jockey trucks or terminal tractors, supports loading and unloading activities, maintains accurate documentation, and upholds strict safety and housekeeping standards in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage the movement of trailers to and from loading and unloading doors to ensure a steady flow of raw materials and finished goods in the yard.
• Operate a jockey truck or terminal tractor to maneuver trailers safely and efficiently within the facility yard and between nearby sites.
• Support loading and unloading activities by positioning trailers correctly and assisting in preparing them for transit.
• Inspect trailers for general condition and readiness, reporting any issues or defects promptly.
• Handle and maintain packing slips, shipping tickets, and related documentation, ensuring accurate recording of weights, measures, and trailer movements.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including the proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized yard area through regular housekeeping and attention to potential hazards.
• Perform general labor tasks associated with yard operations, including outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
• Coordinate movements between two nearby sites to support efficient yard and dock operations.
• Work scheduled shifts and overtime as needed to meet operational demands, including occasional nights and weekends.

Essential Skills

• Valid CDL Class A license.
• At least 3 years of commercial driving or yard jockey experience.
• Proven ability to safely operate jockey trucks, terminal tractors, or similar yard switching equipment.
• Experience with tractor-trailers and on-road yard switching.
• Capability to work in a high-noise, high-vibration environment.
• Ability to stand for long periods and operate heavy machinery safely.
• Demonstrated experience with loading, unloading, and transporting materials.
• Ability to perform outdoor labor in varying weather conditions.
• Strong attention to safety procedures and use of required PPE.
• Reliable attendance and willingness to work varied shifts and overtime, including nights or weekends.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bayonne, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
