Position Overview

The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving commercial growth across Access World s Air and Ocean Freight services in the Canadian market. This role focuses on identifying new business opportunities, expanding relationships with existing clients, and promoting logistics solutions tailored to general cargo and metals industry customers. The ideal candidate combines strong freight forwarding expertise with strategic sales skills and a deep understanding of international logistics.

Responsibilities
  • Business Growth & Sales: Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to grow air and ocean freight volumes in the Toronto and broader Canadian market.
  • Business Growth & Sales: Identify, pursue, and secure new customers within general cargo and metals supply chains.
  • Business Growth & Sales: Build and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified leads across import, export, and cross‑trade opportunities.
  • Business Growth & Sales: Prepare and deliver customized proposals, pricing solutions, and presentations based on customer requirements.
  • Client Relationship Management: Manage, retain, and grow key client accounts through regular engagement and high quality service.
  • Client Relationship Management: Collaborate with internal operations, customer service, and global trade lanes to support seamless execution of client needs.
  • Client Relationship Management: Serve as a subject‑matter expert on air and ocean freight, providing guidance on industry trends, carrier options, transit times, and compliance requirements.
  • Market & Product Expertise: Monitor market conditions, carrier capacity, rate trends, and competitor activity to optimize Access World s commercial strategy.
  • Market & Product Expertise: Work closely with regional and global product teams to enhance service offerings, trade lane development, and pricing strategies.
  • Market & Product Expertise: Support marketing initiatives and represent Access World at industry events, conferences, and customer meetings.
  • Operational & Administrative: Ensure all commercial activities follow company policies and regulatory requirements, including international trade and customs compliance.
  • Operational & Administrative: Maintain accurate CRM records, including customer interactions, pipeline updates, and revenue forecasts.
  • Operational & Administrative: Prepare periodic performance reports detailing sales activities, wins, challenges, and market insights.
Qualifications
  • 4-7 years of experience in business development, sales, or account management within the freight forwarding or international logistics industry.
  • Proven expertise in air and ocean freight products
    , including carrier negotiations, rate structures, and end‑to‑end logistics flows.
  • Experience handling general cargo and/or metals logistics (e.g., steel, non‑ferrous metals, commodities).
  • Strong understanding of international trade, Incoterms, customs procedures, and global supply chain networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate new business, manage a sales pipeline, and exceed revenue targets.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross‑functional teams locally and globally.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and MS Office suite.
Desired Skills and Experience

Skills include freight forwarding (OCEAN AND AIR), business development, organic revenue growth, high energy and performance driven.
