The EHS Department provides internal consulting services, activities, actions and leadership in support of our company's continuous improvement in the areas of environment, health and safety. It is expected that EHS will perform at the highest levels of professionalism and support the efforts of all levels of leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide training, oversight and compliance support to all lines of business, facilities and construction operations.
- Assist in maintaining a high level of safety compliance and awareness at all Group locations through frequent, regular and ongoing site visits.
- Utilize these site visits to collaborate with local mgmt. and employees in addressing EHS issues and promoting Group safety philosophies, expectations, and personal responsibility.
- There is a strong emphasis on coaching all levels of management, supervisors, and employees toward observing, understanding and correcting behaviors and conditions that can lead to incidents.
- Assist the Group in their oversight of contractors, including qualification, insurance requirements and oversight of high-hazard work (i.e. trenching & excavation, work at elevations, exposure to traffic, etc.)
- Conduct periodic audits of operations focused on safety compliance, correction of unsafe behaviors and conditions, documenting findings, setting appropriate timelines (with concurrence of local mgmt), providing appropriate levels of support, and tracking audits to completion.
- Participate in safety pre-planning of large construction projects or work involving significant subcontractor presence.
- Assist in the coordination and facilitation of developing and sharing best practices throughout our facilities and construction operations.
- Support Safety/Event Learning Teams (SLT/ELT) and other safety problem-solving endeavors and develop future leaders of these teams so they can self-facilitate and perpetuate the learning process.
- Provide oversight and leadership in the area of our 5S program - Training, coaching, recommending, tracking.
- Assist management in the establishment of appropriate systems to procure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and appropriate safety supplies for specific tasks and activities.
- Train and assist management in developing Job Safety Analysis (JSAs) for the various tasks and hazards in their facilities and construction.
- Provide oversight and coordination of substance abuse testing in accordance with Group policies.
- Assist and coordinate traffic crash investigations, accident and injury investigations and ongoing incident management along with the development of strategies to prevent similar accidents in the future.
- Initiation of conservative first aid for the resolution of symptoms and/or recommendation for further evaluation by an occupational health physician.
- Assist managers in the assignment of appropriate light or modified duty work.
- Consultation with physicians, nurses, or case managers and insurance claims adjusters on behalf of the employer/employee in professionally handling all facets Worker's Compensation claims and communication.
- Deliver environmental, health and safety training and assist in the development of systems for the delivery of such training within the Group.
- Provide training and coaching for supervisors to be able to lead effective training sessions consistent with the safety training programs of the Group.
- Provide support for supervisory training programs.
- Coordinate Train-the-Trainer programs within the Group for effective control of policies and procedures.
- Provide oversight of driver training, coaching and motor carrier compliance efforts (USDOT & TXDOT).
- Interact and consult with other members of the HR, EHS & safety teams to develop new safety initiatives, objectives, and best practices.
- Assist management, Group counsel and insurance professionals in defending the Group against claims and lawsuits to effectively defend against unreasonable demands and/or resolve matters requiring reasonable resolution.
- Interact and collaborate with CRH/AMAT corporate departments and specialists to ensure consistency as well as expert input and guidance to resolving EHS issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in an occupational safety-related field is highly preferred or an equivalent combination of formal education and work experience in a safety management or supervisory role.
- Three or more years of increasing responsibilities in a safety department supporting a multi-site organization or equivalent or relevant job experience.
