Key Responsibilities- Assist in the preparation and coordination of the City’s annual budget and participate in the long-range forecast.
- Maintain the City’s general ledger and record revenues and expenses.
- Analyze financial transactions, prepare quarterly and annual financial reports, and reconcile accounts.
- Participate in department core functions such as annual budget, year‑end audit, CAFR preparation, and review/update financial procedures.
- Assist in special projects as needed.
- Assist in preparation of the annual operating, capital, and component unit budgets and quarterly budget amendments.
- Serve as liaison between departments and management to formulate and implement budget objectives.
- Assist with departmental training during the budget cycle and monitor department budgets for compliance.
- Submit City’s adopted budget to GFOA for review and apply for the annual Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
- Prepare reports and maintain transaction records; review accounts to determine availability of funds and recommend solutions.
- Maintain communication with all departments regarding financial activities and assist with budget transfers and journal entries for reclassifications.
- Support special audits and requests for schedules and reports.
- Provide financial reports that include complex statistical forecasting models, trend analysis, and financial projections.
- Compile financial data and prepare work papers, graphs, charts for internal and external presentations.
- Maintain and coordinate position control information between departments, Payroll, and Human Resources for accurate data entry.
- Assist in City audits by preparing PBCs and financial statements and responding to auditors’ inquiries; determine necessary adjustments to present financial information on the appropriate basis of accounting.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field from an accredited college or university.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, certification and/or licenses sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Experience in budget, management analysis, accounting, finance or related field.
- Prior municipal experience.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively and maintain relationships with employees, department directors, city management, and elected officials. Detail oriented, capable of completing duties in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner. Positive attitude, quick learner, team builder/player, able to work independently, multitask, troubleshoot, and problem‑solve. Strong working knowledge of spreadsheet and word‑processing systems. General knowledge of accounting and financial reporting.
