Position Summary
A growing chemical manufacturing company in the Baytown area is seeking a Buyer to join its Supply Chain team. This position is responsible for purchasing materials, equipment, and services that support plant operations while ensuring cost-effective procurement, timely delivery, and strong supplier relationships.
The ideal candidate will have experience in purchasing within a manufacturing or industrial environment and be comfortable working with ERP/MRP systems, vendors, inventory, and cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities- Purchase materials, equipment, spare parts, and services to support plant operations.
- Process purchase orders and maintain accurate purchasing records within the ERP/MRP system.
- Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and terms with suppliers.
- Track and expedite purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery.
- Monitor inventory levels and work with internal departments to maintain appropriate stock.
- Coordinate with Accounting to resolve invoice discrepancies.
- Obtain quotes and source new suppliers as needed.
- Maintain strong vendor relationships and monitor supplier performance.
- Support maintenance with emergency or rush orders.
- Assist with freight coordination, blanket purchase orders, and special projects.
- Experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain within a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Experience purchasing MRO materials, equipment, spare parts, or plant supplies is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
- Experience using ERP or MRP purchasing systems.
- Strong communication, negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Detail-oriented with excellent follow-up skills.
- Willingness to occasionally work weekends, holidays, or respond to urgent plant purchasing needs.
