Position Summary

A growing chemical manufacturing company in the Baytown area is seeking a Buyer to join its Supply Chain team. This position is responsible for purchasing materials, equipment, and services that support plant operations while ensuring cost-effective procurement, timely delivery, and strong supplier relationships.

The ideal candidate will have experience in purchasing within a manufacturing or industrial environment and be comfortable working with ERP/MRP systems, vendors, inventory, and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities
  • Purchase materials, equipment, spare parts, and services to support plant operations.
  • Process purchase orders and maintain accurate purchasing records within the ERP/MRP system.
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and terms with suppliers.
  • Track and expedite purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Monitor inventory levels and work with internal departments to maintain appropriate stock.
  • Coordinate with Accounting to resolve invoice discrepancies.
  • Obtain quotes and source new suppliers as needed.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships and monitor supplier performance.
  • Support maintenance with emergency or rush orders.
  • Assist with freight coordination, blanket purchase orders, and special projects.
Qualifications
  • Experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain within a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience purchasing MRO materials, equipment, spare parts, or plant supplies is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience using ERP or MRP purchasing systems.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent follow-up skills.
  • Willingness to occasionally work weekends, holidays, or respond to urgent plant purchasing needs.
