Description
The Manager, Operations, is responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day execution of transportation and logistics operations within a terminal or assigned region. This role ensures service delivery, operational efficiency, safety compliance, and team leadership while aligning activities with business objectives. The Manager, Operations plays a key role in optimizing resources, supporting customer satisfaction, and driving performance across departments.
Summary of Essential Job Functions Operational Oversight- Oversees all aspects of terminal or regional operations, including scheduling, dispatch, routing, and load execution.
- Ensures compliance with safety, environmental, DOT, and company regulatory standards.
- Monitors KPIs such as on‑time performance, utilization, cost‑per‑load, and asset productivity.
- Coordinates with departments such as maintenance, safety, and recruiting to maintain seamless workflow.
- Manages day‑to‑day problem resolution, service delays, and escalations in real time.
- Leads and develops frontline supervisors, dispatchers, and support staff.
- Conducts performance evaluations, coaching sessions, and training initiatives.
- Creates a culture of accountability, engagement, and high performance.
- Ensures team alignment with operational goals and company values.
- Serves as the primary contact for key customer accounts at the local/regional level.
- Ensures operational teams meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Proactively identifies service issues and implements corrective actions.
- Partners with commercial teams to support growth and retention initiatives.
- Prepares and manages terminal budgets, labor planning, and cost controls.
- Analyzes financial and operational reports to identify areas for improvement.
- Ensures compliance with internal policies, audits, and record‑keeping standards.
Skills and Qualifications Experience
- 5+ years of experience in Transportation, Logistics, or Operations Management.
- Prior supervisory or management experience in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience in P&L management, scheduling, or load planning preferred.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and decision‑making skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in TMS, Microsoft Office Suite, and reporting tools.
- Solid understanding of DOT, OSHA, and transportation regulations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
