Tool Room AttendantThe purpose of this procedure is to provide and maintain appropriate tools to effectively support the daily maintenance, small projects, and minor maintenance activities, and support some third‑party contractor activities with adequate tools to safely complete identified tasks. This procedure applies to each production unit, maintenance, and resident and nonresident contractors.
This procedure defines the responsibilities of the tool room attendants, supervision, Maintenance Coordinators, and contractors where applicable ensuring tools are certified, inspected, issued, tracked, returned after each use, repaired, and purchased when and as required. Other duties may be assigned.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities- Tool Room Attendant is responsible for overseeing tools as identified below
- Inspect and ensure that all tools are in good condition and in compliance with applicable OSHA and ANSI standards before issuing to technician and upon return of issue back to tool room inventory.
- All tools when checked out will be entered into “DAILY Checkout Log” (Location).
- This Daily Checkout Log will be filled out with the following information:
Date, Description of the tool, Full name of requestor, Company Requestor represents, Requestor’s Supervisor’s name. - When tool is returned, Tool Technician will verify that tool is ready for checkout again;
Daily Checkout Log will be revised to include the date of return and transaction will be considered complete. - Tools not returned after 30 days of being issued, attendant will describe non return to tools to the outstanding for return log.
- IF tool is deemed to need repairs, or is damaged, the following steps will be followed:
- IF tool is deemed damaged, lost or in need of repair due to neglect or abuse, this will be reported to the Tool Lead. The tool will be issued a Repair tag ( EC03531 3/09).
- The repair tag will be attached to tool and placed in area for tools going out for repairs. The costs of repairs or replacement will be added to work order, and/or Maintenance Manager will be notified of costs, work order number and company responsible for this action. ( Lost, neglect, or abuse)
- If Repairs are from normal use, the tool will be evaluated by Tool Technician as repairable or not.
- If repairs can be handled by Tool Technician, the tool will be repaired with parts purchased, if necessary, from Tool Room budget (4105/84050).
- If tool can be repaired in house by Tool Technician, the costs of supplies to make necessary repairs will be given to Tool Room Lead man, so costs can be added to work order and/or Maintenance Manager will be notified of costs, work order number and company responsible for this action.
- If tool cannot be repaired inhouse, the Tool Technician will tag tool with Repairable Tag ( EC03531 3/09), the Tool Technician will give the following information to the Tool Room Lead, the following information:
Repair Tag Number ( EC03531 3/09), Tool Description, Problem with tool, Tool r, Work order number, Name of person who checked out tool and the company responsible. - Other duties as assigned.
