Description
The Quality Engineer (Entry Level-Alpha Program) will support the quality management and assurance processes within the ERW steel pipe manufacturing facility. This position provides hands‑on experience in industrial quality engineering, supporting production, inspection, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure products meet internal standards and customer specifications.
Working ConditionsPrimarily works within the production mill environment with moderate administrative office work. Exposure to heat, noise, and moving machinery; PPE required at all times. Must be able to stand/walk for extended periods, climb stairs, and occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. May require shift work, including nights or weekends, depending on production schedule or during major maintenance or startups.
Qualifications- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field. Metallurgical degree preferred.
- 0–1 year of relevant experience; internships or co‑op experience in manufacturing, quality or industrial settings preferred.
- Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Team‑oriented, eager to learn, and able to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
- Knowledge in Lean/6 Sigma Production Methodology, time studies and 5S preferred.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Follow and promote safe work practices in all areas of the plant, including operations, testing, and shipping.
- Assist in implementing quality assurance processes across all plant operations.
- Conduct inspections, dimensional checks, and material testing to verify compliance with internal standards and customer requirements.
- Support troubleshooting and investigation of non-conforming products or processes.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret quality and process data to identify trends, defects, and areas for improvement.
- Assist in generating reports on key quality metrics, including rejection rates, customer complaints, scrap rates, and process efficiency.
- Support internal audits, regulatory compliance reporting, and certification activities.
- Participate in quality improvement projects and initiatives across all plant operations.
- Support process optimization, standardization, and preventive measures to reduce defects and improve throughput.
- Apply Lean and Six Sigma principles under the guidance of senior engineers and managers.
- Participate in training programs to develop technical skills and understanding of steel pipe manufacturing processes.
- Gain exposure to multiple plant operations to build a comprehensive understanding of quality engineering in a global manufacturing context.
- This position has the authority to stop work for reasons of quality or safety.
