Job Summary

ResponsibilitiesPerform all operating tasks involved in taking raw surface water and processing it into a quality product. Perform preventive maintenance and minor mechanical and electrical repairs.
Operator I Responsibilities- Assists all shift personnel on procedures and troubleshooting plant operations.
- Tests water, records data and adjusts the treatment process accordingly.
- Makes mechanical or electrical repairs on rotating equipment above and below grade.
- Performs preventative maintenance to the plant equipment on a regular basis as assigned by making measured adjustments and replacing parts.
- Receives and stores chemical shipments such as liquids and powders in bulk and barrel form.
- Checks and maintains equipment by checking oil levels, opening, inspecting, and listening for abnormal noise.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Analyzes and records analytical tests of the water samples at various stages of the treatment process.
- Makes decisions from test results and takes appropriate action to assure quality.
- Assures proper documentation of shift reports and specialist lab results.
- Assures all chemicals are being properly fed into the plant.
- Performs preventative maintenance.
- Assists with mechanical or electrical repairs of any plant equipment and lines.
- Receives chemical shipments and assures that they are stored correctly.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Analyzes and records analytical tests of the water samples at various stages of the treatment process. Inspects the process and physical plant for compliance with safety procedures and quality standards.
- Makes decisions from test results and takes appropriate action to assure quality.
- Assures proper documentation of shift reports and specialist lab results and checks their performance by auditing lab test results, log sheets, and product quality.
- Assures all chemicals are being properly fed into the plant.
- Performs preventative maintenance.
- Assists with mechanical or electrical repairs of any plant equipment and lines.
- Receives chemical shipments and assures that they are stored correctly.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- One year related experience.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
- Ability to receive TCEQ Grade “C” surface water certification within two years of hire date.
Preferred:
- Functioning knowledge of Pumps and Motors.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- TCEQ Grade “B” surface water certificate.
- Two years’ experience in a related paraprofessional role.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
Preferred:
- Previous experience with a plant SCADA system and/or computer.
- Five years’ experience in a related paraprofessional or surface water treatment role.
- Grade A Surface water license from the TCEQ.

Skills and Abilities
Operator I
- Ability to pass a physical ability test for operation of plant equipment.
- Ability to make mathematical calculations.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical motor skills and basic chemistry.
- Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.
- Ability to make mathematical calculations to determine flows and dosages.
- Knowledge of safe practices in handling highly volatile and corrosive chemicals in large amounts.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical motor skills and basic knowledge of chemistry.
- Ability to operate lab equipment and other equipment, machinery used in water purification.
