Maintenance Crew Leader

Overview

The Maintenance Crew Leader directs and maintains organization within the assigned Maintenance mechanical team. The leader communicates instructions, coordinates work lists, resolves daily activities, and assists crew members in various tasks when needed.

The role is in a manufacturing environment with normal hot and cold conditions. The environment is greasy, dirty, and noisy. Work includes lifting, pulling, and/or pushing materials and product up to 50 pounds, standing, walking considerable distances, and using personal protective equipment (PPE) such as eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Leadership skills and strong communication across all departments.
• General understanding of pipe manufacturing operations.
• Prior experience in a leadership role managing small groups of employees.
• Knowledge of plant safety rules and regulations, ensuring compliance.
• Good reporting skills and ability to document shift activities verbally and in writing.
• Basic understanding of simple electrical circuits related to mechanical equipment and sequencing of mechanical components.
• Ability to read operating and maintenance instructions, procedure/equipment manuals, and mechanical schematic drawings; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Spanish as a second language is preferred, but not required.

• Ensure effective communication between crews at shift change.
• Meet daily with the Operations Supervisor to verify equipment availability and functioning.
• Ensure the Daily Activity Logs, scheduled P.M.’s, and check sheets are completed in detail by crew members.
• Pass on information regarding equipment needing attention and parts required for repairs to the proper persons.
• Attend all required training, safety meetings/classes.
• Be available to work outside the regular schedule to assist with process changes and major repair implementation.
• Respond to all trouble calls in a timely and effective manner.
• Assist in vacation scheduling and employee evaluations.
• Follow all PPE policies and safety rules.
• Support HSE-related programs that promote safety awareness and culture.

• Assist in repairs when needed.
• Enter work orders into the CMMS of the Maintenance Department.
• Assist in employee training and improvement programs.
• Operate forklift, overhead crane, manlift, or carry deck as required.
• Maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The position has the authority to stop an operation if deemed necessary for safety or to prevent equipment damage. If the interruption is for an extended period, the crew leader must notify the Operations Supervisor on duty and follow the established notification procedure.
