East Houston Medical Center’s Baytown facility is seeking Operating Room Registered Nurses who are focused, detail‑oriented, and committed to safe perioperative care. This role supports patients through the surgical experience while serving as a clinical advocate in a highly coordinated procedural environment.
About the RoleThe OR RN will primarily support circulating duties, surgical preparation, intraoperative documentation, patient safety checks, and collaboration with surgeons, anesthesia, surgical technologists, and perioperative leaders. The ideal candidate understands the importance of readiness, anticipation, and precision in the operating room.
Key Responsibilities- Provide perioperative nursing care before, during, and immediately after surgical procedures.
- Serve as circulating nurse and advocate for the patient throughout the surgical case.
- Verify patient identity, consent, procedure, site marking, positioning, allergies, implants, equipment, and required documentation.
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesia, surgical technologists, sterile processing, PACU, and support departments.
- Monitor patient condition, maintain situational awareness, and communicate concerns promptly.
- Document surgical counts, medications, implants, specimens, timeouts, procedures, and intraoperative events accurately.
- Support room setup, case preparation, turnover, equipment readiness, and schedule efficiency.
- Follow AORN standards, sterile field awareness, infection prevention, and facility surgical safety procedures.
Full‑time and part‑time schedules may include day shifts, variable shifts, call coverage, weekends, holidays, and surgical volume‑based assignments.
Requirements Qualifications- Active RN license in the State of Texas or compact RN license in good standing.
- Current BLS required.
- ACLS preferred or required within facility‑defined timeframe.
- Operating Room, perioperative, PACU, or procedural nursing experience preferred.
- CNOR preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, calm communication, and ability to function in a team‑based surgical environment.
