Position OverviewAs a Quality Control Technical Manager for a Liquid Asphalt Terminal in the Texas Region, this is a key role in ensuring the quality and integrity of the liquid asphalt products being stored and distributed from the terminal. It involves a combination of technical expertise, attention to detail, regulatory knowledge, and strong communication and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities- Quality Assurance and Testing:
Oversee the development and implementation of quality control procedures and standards for incoming and outgoing liquid asphalt shipments, conduct regular tests, inspections, and analyses to ensure compliance with industry specifications and customer requirements. - Testing Protocols:
Design and maintain testing protocols for properties such as viscosity, temperature susceptibility, penetration, ductility, and chemical composition, ensuring all equipment is properly calibrated. - Regulatory Compliance:
Stay current with local, regional, and national regulations and standards for liquid asphalt storage, handling, and distribution, ensuring the terminal operates in full compliance. - Quality Control Documentation:
Keep detailed records of test results, inspections, and quality control measures, generating reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory authorities. - Supplier Relationships:
Collaborate with suppliers to confirm delivered asphalt meets required quality standards, communicating issues and resolving them collaboratively. - Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities to improve quality and operational efficiency, such as new testing methods, optimized storage conditions, or equipment upgrades. - Training and Supervision:
Train and manage a team of quality control technicians, ensuring they are competent in all testing procedures. - Emergency Response:
Develop contingency plans and protocols for emergencies like spills, leaks, or accidents involving liquid asphalt. - Collaboration:
Work with operations, maintenance, and safety departments to align quality control with overall terminal operations. - Continuous Improvement:
Engage in ongoing learning and professional development to stay current with advancements in asphalt technology and quality control methods. - Communication:
Effectively communicate with internal teams, suppliers, customers, and regulatory agencies about quality control processes and results. - Compliance:
Complete all required paperwork and reports in a timely manner. - Other duties as may be assigned.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Material Science, or a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience with asphalt production, testing, quality control, or terminal operations; polymer processing experience is a plus where applicable.
- Valid state driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Proficiency in material testing methods for liquid asphalt, including viscosity, penetration, and ductility testing.
- Strong understanding of QC principles and techniques.
- Understanding of industry standards and regulations governing liquid asphalt production, storage, and distribution.
- Experience operating and maintaining laboratory instruments used for asphalt testing.
- Effective communication skills with customers and personnel.
- Ability to supervise and guide personnel for customer satisfaction.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with problem-solving ability.
- Attention to detail in QC to ensure accurate test results.
- Organizational skills to manage test schedules and reporting.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and local operational software.
