The primary responsibilities of this role, as Senior Inspection Specialist, are to provide inspection data management and data analysis to support Covestro's Asset Management and Mechanical Integrity (MI) programs. They will partner closely with operating unit personnel to develop pragmatic solutions for inspection execution and equipment repair. The Senior Inspection Specialist will develop optimized Inspection Task Plans (ITPs) utilizing knowledge of damage mechanisms, RBI strategies, previous inspection data, and applicable inspection codes and standards.
In addition, they will be responsible for evaluating specific equipment damage and developing the initial repair scope.
Major Responsibilities
- Provide Mechanical Equipment Inspection Services to the assigned area of the Baytown site according to the Baytown Inspection Procedure and the principles of the API 510, 570 and 653 practices
- Manage the technical performance of NDE contractor resources used at the Baytown site
- Prepare fixed equipment ITPs and manage Meridium database activities and associated drawings to assure sustainable and compliant Mechanical Integrity of responsible assets
- Determine the most appropriate NDT techniques and applications to effectively and efficiently identify and quantify degradation mechanisms
- Perform periodic maintenance and compliance inspections and ensure progressive histories are maintained within specified data bases and specified by Covestro and applicable industry guidelines
- Prepare inspection non-conformance reports and develop repair plans, as well as assist in the development of modifications and rerates plans of fixed equipment to support Safe and Reliable operations
- Oversee annual and long-term inspection schedules so that Federal, State and Local Regulations, as well as company specifications, policies and procedures are completely met or exceeded
Basic Qualifications
- High school degree or GED and 12 years of experience
- Certified API Inspector with at least two of the following:
- API 510,570, 653
- 12 years of experience conducting nondestructive examination and inspection of fixed equipment within the Chemical, Petrochemical, Refining or Nuclear Industries
- 12 years of experience in equipment fabrication and repair
- ASNT Level II or equivalent level of general knowledge in at least three of following NDE methods: MT, PT, RT, VT, ET & UT
- Willingness to travel as needed (0 - 10% expected)
- The eligibility to apply for and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within a reasonable timeframe
Preferred Qualifications
- API 580, 571, 577 or 936- AWS CWI certification
- ASNT Level III Certifications
- NBIC
- Experience in scheduling and coordinating NDT personnel.
Knowledge &
Skills:
- Strong background in various NDE methods and in coordination of these in field and shop environments
- Knowledge and understanding of Risk Based Inspection (RBI) strategies and inspection work plans
- Structured and organized working style to support the continuous improvement process within the TAM Asset Management Department
- Ability to work in team environments and create viable partnerships with plant personnel and contract
