Position Summary
The Business Development Executive is responsible for generating profitable new business by developing relationships with commercial and industrial construction decision-makers.

- Develop new business with General Contractors, EPC firms, industrial contractors, plant owners, municipalities, and commercial developers.
- Identify upcoming construction projects before they reach the bidding stage.
- Schedule in-person meetings with estimators, project managers, purchasing teams, and company leadership.
- Generate opportunities for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, stairs, railings, platforms, ladders, and custom fabrication.
- Maintain communication with customers throughout estimating, bidding, project award, fabrication, and completion.
- Review construction reports, permit activity, Dodge Construction Network, and similar industry resources to identify upcoming work.
- Collaborate with the estimating team to communicate customer requirements before proposals are prepared.
- Follow up on submitted proposals to understand project status, competitive positioning, and improve future bid opportunities.
- Build long-term customer relationships that generate repeat business.
- Represent the company at customer meetings, networking events, and construction industry associations.
- Maintain an organized sales pipeline and document customer activity in the CRM system.
- Minimum 5 years of outside business development or commercial construction sales experience.
- Experience selling to commercial or industrial construction customers.
- Proven success developing new business rather than managing existing accounts.
- Experience working with General Contractors, industrial contractors, EPC firms, project managers, estimators, purchasing teams, or facility owners.
- Experience using Dodge Construction Network, Building Connected, Construct Connect, or similar construction lead platforms.
- Comfortable prospecting through cold calls, networking, referrals, and in-person visits.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel throughout the Greater Houston area.
- Establish a consistent weekly prospecting schedule within the first 90 days.
- Build an active pipeline of qualified commercial and industrial opportunities.
- Develop relationships with key decision-makers across the Houston market.
- Generate multiple bid opportunities for the estimating team.
- Convert new prospects into long-term customers.
- Is uncomfortable making cold calls or visiting job sites.
- Prefers managing existing accounts instead of developing new business.
- Requires daily direction to stay productive.
- Has no experience selling within the commercial or industrial construction industry.
