Facilities Specialist
The Public Works & Engineering Department is seeking a detail-oriented Facilities Specialist to support the maintenance, repair, and operation of municipal buildings and infrastructure. Responsibilities include coordinating facility services, ensuring safety compliance, and assisting with project planning and execution. Ideal candidates will have experience in facilities management and a strong commitment to public service.
The role involves performing restoration, renovation, and maintenance work across various trades such as carpentry, sheetrock, painting, air conditioning, electrical, and plumbing. The Facilities Specialist acts as a general helper, diagnosing issues, making minor repairs, and assisting supervisors in overseeing contractors to ensure timely and professional completion of projects.
Position Levels and Responsibilities Facilities Specialist I- Evaluate, plan, schedule, and complete building repair, renovation, and restoration projects.
- Assist with minor repairs like lock replacement, lighting, electrical, drywall, painting, and roof repairs.
- Oversee and manage outside contractors.
- Log and report repairs, escalate major issues as needed.
- Perform other related duties.
- All responsibilities of Specialist I, with direct responsibility for repairs including carpentry, sheetrock, painting, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing, emphasizing trade certifications.
- Assist in overseeing contractor work.
- Log and report repairs, escalate issues as needed.
- Perform other related duties.
- All responsibilities of Specialist II, with additional duties as a lead, including training, mentoring, and advising other specialists.
- Oversee and manage contractor work.

- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX license within 90 days).
- One year of experience in building maintenance and repair.
- Ability to pass CJIS background check.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX license within 90 days).
- Three years of experience in building maintenance and repair.
- One trade certification (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, locksmithing, etc.).
- Ability to pass CJIS background check.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX license within 90 days).
- Three years of paraprofessional maintenance experience.
- Two trade certifications in relevant trades.
- Ability to pass CJIS background check.
- HVAC Technician Certification
- EPA Universal HVAC Certification (Type I, II, III)
- BPAT
Ability to multitask, prioritize, work independently, and organize effectively. Capable of solving practical problems, interpreting various instructions, and performing routine building maintenance. Knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office programs. Ability to work well with co-workers and the public.
Additional InformationAttendance is essential, and overtime may be required. The position involves emergency response duties, including during evacuations. Overall physical work capacity is classified as Medium Work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
