Boilermaker (Baytown, TX) - Austin Industrial

In this role, you will construct, assemble, maintain, and repair stationary steam boilers and boiler house auxiliaries. You will align structures or plate sections, assemble boiler frame tanks or vats per blueprints, use hand and power tools, and assist in testing assembled vessels. Duties also include direct cleaning of boilers and furnaces, inspecting and repairing boiler fittings, and performing tasks listed below.

• Examine boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, or vats to locate defects, such as leaks, weak spots, or defective sections, to be repaired.
• Bolt or arc weld pressure vessel structures and parts together, using wrenches or welding equipment.
• Inspect assembled vessels or individual components to locate defects.
• Repair or replace defective pressure vessel parts, such as safety valves or regulators, using appropriate tools.
• Attach rigging and signal crane or hoist operators to lift heavy frame and plate sections into place.
• Bell, bead with power hammers, or weld pressure vessel tube ends to ensure leakproof joints.
• Lay out plate, sheet steel, or heavy metal, mark bending and cutting lines using protractors, compasses, and drawing instruments.
• Install manholes, handholes, taps, tubes, valves, gauges, or feedwater connections in drums of water tube boilers using hand tools.
• Study blueprints to determine locations, relationships, or dimensions of parts.
• Straighten or reshape bent pressure vessel plates or structural parts using hammers, jacks, or torches.
• Shape seams, joints, or irregular edges of pressure vessel sections or structural parts to attain specified fit.
• Position, align, and secure structural parts to boiler frames, tanks, or vats following blueprints.
• Locate and mark reference points on boiler foundations using straightedges, squares, transits, etc.
• Shape or fabricate parts such as stacks, uptakes, or chutes to adapt pressure vessels, heat exchangers, or piping.
• Clean pressure vessel equipment using scrapers, wire brushes, and cleaning solvents.
• Install refractory bricks or other heat‑resistant materials in fireboxes of pressure vessels.
• Assemble large vessels in an on‑site fabrication shop prior to installation to ensure proper fit.

Employees are regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Employees are frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

• 3-5 years of Journeyman level experience.
• Valid Driver’s License and TWIC Card.
• NCCER Boilermaker certification.
