Every day brings new locate requests, varied terrain, and direct impact on public safety and infrastructure integrity.

Primary Services is actively recruiting for the Utility Locator for a large, established organization in the infrastructure and utilities sector. This role supports high-volume operational activity focused on accurately identifying and marking underground fiber and utility systems. The Utility Locator will be responsible for executing field locate requests, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and supporting a wide network of construction and maintenance stakeholders across a broad service area.

Responsibilities
  • Locate, mark, and verify underground fiber and utility infrastructure in accordance with company standards and 811 requirements.
  • Interpret maps, prints, and system data to identify underground assets and field conditions accurately.
  • Execute field implementation of locate requests and complete assigned tickets within required timelines.
  • Photograph, document, and maintain records for each locate activity to ensure compliance and traceability.
  • Manage locate tickets and updates using Digtix and related systems to ensure accurate status reporting and positive response completion.
  • Report field conditions and infrastructure issues such as damaged utilities, missing access points, or faulty conduit.
  • Communicate with contractors, construction crews, and internal operations teams regarding locate status and field findings.
  • Support damage prevention initiatives and promote safe excavation practices across all job sites.
  • Provide additional operational support and perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3–5+ years of utility locating, construction, or related field experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, diagrams, utility prints, and technical documents.
  • Basic math proficiency, including algebra, geometry, and measurement calculations.
  • Experience using mobile devices and field-based software tools, including MS Outlook and Teams.
  • Familiarity with locate or asset management systems such as Digtix or similar platforms preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Capability to walk long distances, stand for extended durations, and lift up to 50 pounds.
