Leadman
Provides leadership, instruction, and guidance to other craft workers in work crew, providing assistance to Foreman, while working in the capacity of a journeyman. Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs and maintains piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water fixtures and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and production and processing systems.
Responsibilities include selecting type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, inspecting worksite to determine presence of obstructions, planning sequence on installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other workers, cutting pipe using various tools, threading pipe using threading machine, bending pipe by hand or with tools and machine, mounting pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceiling to hold pipe, assembling and installing a variety of metal or nonmetal pipes and pipe fittings, securing pipes to structure with bracket, clamps, and hangers, installing and maintaining refrigeration and air conditioning systems, testing piping systems for leaks, welding pipe supports to structural steel members, observing production machines in assigned area of manufacturing facility to detect machinery malfunctions, loading, transporting and unloading material, tools, equipment and supplies, assisting in lifting, positioning and securing of material and work pieces during installation, performing minor maintenance of cleaning activities of tools and equipment, and observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
Job requirements include working within precise limits or standards of accuracy, making decisions based on measurable criteria, applying shop mathematics to solve problems, planning work and selecting proper tools, visualizing objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings, working at heights without fear, and comparing and seeing differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects.
Qualifications may require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area. Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field is required. Instructions and pre-established guidelines are relied upon to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision and primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
Physical requirements include standing 60%, walking 20%, sitting 20%, lifting 50 lb., carrying 50 lb., pushing 70 ft-lb., pulling 70 ft-lb., climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering.
