The Transportation Specialist (Over-the-Road Driver) is responsible for the safe and timely transport of blast-resistant and other industrial modular buildings to customer locations nationwide. This position involves frequent travel in 4-5 day segments, with occasional trips extending beyond 5 days and requiring overnight stays. Transportation Specialists coordinate with various departments to manage daily pickups and deliveries, ensuring all activity complies with DOT regulations and is completed on schedule.
A strong focus on safety, equipment maintenance, and teamwork is essential. In addition, this role serves as a key representative of the company, working closely with customer Site Supervisors and our internal dispatch team to ensure a professional and seamless delivery experience.
- Operates a semi-truck and/or rollback according to applicable state and federal transportation laws.
- Transports loads safely and in a timely manner over required routes, obeying all traffic laws and observing all safety regulations.
- Checks vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Maintains logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
- Maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from spotters and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
- Safely loads and unloads trailer, or help others with loading and unloading, using specialized equipment when warranted.
- Secures cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
- Collects delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
- Assists other departments when business is slow or when needed.
- Reports vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to supervisor and other appropriate personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- 3+ years of related experience.
- 3+ years of flat-bed and oversize load experience (some units are 12' wide).
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to speak professionally and courteously with customers and staff at delivery points.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Medical Examiner's Certification [Medical Card].
- Must pass background and drug testing as required by federal and/or state department(s) of transportation regulations.
- Ability to travel in segments of 4-5 days and occasionally more than 5 days, overnight included.
- Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
- Ability to read and understand oversize routes and permits.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Basic mechanical and maintenance on tractor and trailer.
- Experience operating a forklift.
- No restrictions on Class A driver's license.

- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. Temperatures can be below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees for periods longer than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity.
- The worker is frequently required to operate machinery and/or power tools. Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment.
- Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
- The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform inspections and load and unload products.
- Might be required to shave beard.
