Job Summary
Join our team as an Equipment Specialist for Public Works, where you will operate and maintain specialized equipment for asphalt crack sealing to ensure safe and durable roadways. You will perform preventative maintenance, ensure compliance with safety standards, and contribute to the upkeep of vital public infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Operate equipment such as street sweeper, dump truck, compactor, picker truck, backhoe, concrete breaker, and loader, as well as assorted hand and pneumatic tools.
- Inspect, clean, and perform routine maintenance work on vehicles and equipment daily; identify and report mechanical problems and damage.
- Perform traffic control activities as needed; report safety hazards and traffic problems.
- Perform skilled and semi‑skilled construction, maintenance, and general labor work in the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, driveways, alleys, drainage, and asphalt repairs.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Operate and maintain brush or stake bed, checking oil and gas each morning and refueling as necessary.
- Drive and operate brush or stake bed, loading by hand when necessary.
- Perform personnel related duties including training and coaching.
- Maintain grounds—mowing, weed eating, sweeping, picking up trash, cleaning around containers, and all landscaping maintenance.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Six months of related experience.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain Texas driver’s license within 90 days).
- Valid State of Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver’s License, or must be obtained within six months of the date of appointment.
Ability to operate equipment including sweeper, patch truck, and dump trucks; keep accurate maintenance, sweeping, and patching records; knowledge of city streets; ability to get along appropriately with co‑workers and the public.
For Solid Waste Only positions: ability to operate and maintain all types of equipment used in the collection of brush, work around cash and write receipts, and perform maintenance duties as needed.
Additional RequirementsAttendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require overtime. This position provides services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations; the incumbent may be required to remain in the position during evacuations.
Position Strength DemandsHeavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
