This position is responsible for maintenance and routine operations of assigned warehouse(s) by receiving, storing, staging and delivering items; securing warehouse; supervising staff.
Responsibilities- Works closely with all warehouse staff on the floor to ensure operational needs are met.
- Assists in the selection, orientation, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and communicating the job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job performance; recommending actions; adhering to policies and procedures.
- Operates forklift and other applicable equipment when needed to ensure all materials unloaded and any outbound loads are staged and ready for pick.
- Meets warehouse operational standards by contributing warehouse information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer‑service standards; resolving problems; identifying warehouse system improvements.
- Moves inventory by scheduling materials to be transferred to and from warehouse; coordinating inventory transfers with Customer Service related departments.
- Communicates with Operations Manager for dissemination of information/reports, addressing complaints and works in conjunction with related departments as needed.
- Organizes floor space; adhering to storage design principles; recommending improvements.
- Tracks inventory by conducting monthly physical counts; reconciling variances; inputting data in collaboration with the Operations Inventory Team. Also performs cycle inventories as requested by Commercial Department.
- Manages facility maintenance.
- Manages vendors and suppliers of services including but not limited to equipment rental and maintenance, utilities, facilities maintenance, supplies and consumables.
- Secures warehouse by locking doors, activating alarms; testing systems and reporting as appropriate.
- Assists in equipment maintenance by enforcing operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; requiring preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Accountable for the safe and efficient operation of equipment. Ensure employees are working safely and wearing proper PPE at all times.
- Other duties or projects as needed/assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three to five years of inventory/warehouse coordination in a transloading warehouse setting, and supervisory experience.
- Experience handling metals, plywood/forest products, supersacks, coils, steel structures, solar panels, and other general cargo.
- Experience operating industrial lift trucks up to 36K pound capacity and various cargo handling attachments and implements.
- Working knowledge of vessel schedules and workload planning necessary to manage container free time, demurrage and per diem.
- The ability to follow and provide instructions with emphasis on safety.
- Demonstrated experience training employees, delegating work, labor planning and monitoring/addressing performance.
- Critical thinking, with the ability to see the big picture.
- Strong work ethic, with a proven track record of dependability.
- Solid decision‑making, with the ability to support and execute.
- Ability to manage conflict.
- Capable of effectively leading and motivating a team and set positive examples.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to handle tight scheduling, fast‑paced, high‑volume levels of activity.
- Must be able to prioritize, shift priorities and multi‑task as needed.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, with the aptitude to quickly learn other systems/software.
- Ability to read and write fluently, count accurately and perform basic math equations.
- Flexibility and willingness to work weekends, overtime and second shift, when required.
- Capable of sitting, standing and walking for extended periods.
- Must be able to twist, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder level and crouch on a frequent basis.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate a forklift.
- Must be able to use proper lifting technique to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work in varying weather conditions.
