80. This role is with the Metro Health System, focused on delivering high-quality patient-centered care to communities in Northeast Ohio. The organization provides primary and specialty care through an expansive ambulatory network and is dedicated to enhancing healthcare access and reducing disparities across the service area.
- Primary Patient Population:
Outpatient setting. Different clinics offer opportunities to experience specific patient populations. - Primary Skills Utilized/Learned:
Scheduling patients, obtaining pre-authorizations, registering patients, gathering/analyzing payor data; performing basic medical screenings; taking vital signs, specimen collection, bladder scan, EKGs; medication and vaccination administration; wound care (suture/staple removal); assisting providers with sterile and non-sterile procedures; splinting and bandaging. - Professional
Collaboration:
Work with RNs, LPNs, Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and Medical Doctors (MDs).
- HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.
- Meets one of the following:
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program and experience in Medical Assisting or acute patient care, including school-sponsored externships.
- Completion of a Medical Assisting-comparable military educational program for medics/hospital corpsman with honorable discharge (if applicable).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for the American Heart Association (AHA) or obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Knowledge of basic medical procedures and medical terminology.
- Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment with sound judgment; strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced setting with multiple providers.
- Basic computer and data entry skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Flexibility, initiative, and a strong work ethic.
- Pass Medical Assistant pre-employment screening tests with required scores, unless exempt for current Metro Health MTAs/MPAs.
- Pass PSR pre-employment screening test with 75%+ and post-employment test with 80%+.
- Access to reliable transportation to travel to different sites within the Ambulatory Care Enterprise.
- Able to work in assigned area(s) and any other clinic based on operational needs.
- 6 months of clerical experience and experience related to patient care.
- Active certification as a CCMA (NHA), CMA (AAMA), or RMA (AMT).
- One of: 1 year of medical billing/patient registration/patient scheduling experience, or related educational background.
- Current CHAA certification from NAHAM.
- Experience calculating dosages and administering medications, particularly pediatric immunizations, with unit-conversion skills.
- Experience performing point-of-care testing (CLIA-waived), wound care, dressing changes, specimen collection, and phlebotomy.
- Experience assisting with various procedures and tests (e.g., pulmonary function tests).
- Experience with Epic In-Basket management.
- For ENT, Orthopedics, and Surgery clinics: experience with external fixator removal, procedures such as flex sigmoidoscopy, hemorrhoid banding, casts, incision & drainage, cystoscopy setup and cleanup, thyroid FNA biopsy, reductions, and splint placement.
- May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day; may need to sit or stand for extended periods.
- See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
- Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
- Ability to lift 250-300 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to push/pull up to 500 pounds with assistance.
- Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids and to chemicals/cleaning products.
