Machine Learning/ ML Engineer, Data Scientist
Position Summary
The Machine Learning Engineer works in Penske Logistics' Data Science team, supporting data scientists with AI/ML model development and deployment with an emphasis on auditability, versioning, and data security. This role will design and implement processes to maintain and monitor data science ML models and support data for performance and drift. The Engineer will build and implement applications which make use of AI/ML models.
This position works with data scientists as a subject matter expert to ensure ML models are developed appropriately to perform within the expected ranges of accuracy.
- Take offline models data scientists build and turn them into a real machine learning production system
- Build, implement, and/or support applications which make use of AI/ML models
- Emphasis on auditability, versioning, and data security
- Design and implement model and data monitoring solutions
- Apply software engineering rigor and best practices to machine learning, including AI/MLOPs, CI/CD, automation, etc.
- Provide production metrics for data science deliverables
- Work with data scientists as a subject matter expert to ensure ML models are developed appropriately to perform within the expected ranges of accuracy
- Lead Self Service AI (SSAI) initiatives by supporting the citizen data scientists across Penske
- Other projects and tasks as assigned
- Bachelor's degree required with a concentration in Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Math, Computer Science, or related quantitative field
- Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with Bachelor's degree in related field
- 2 years of experience designing and building machine learning applications using either structured or unstructured datasets is required. Must have practical experience programming using Python, R or other high level scripting languages
- Demonstrated experience with two or more machine learning techniques including logistic regression, decision trees, random forests and clustering is required
- Knowledge and experience with SQL is preferred
- Intermediate skill level in machine learning, supervised learning, and scripting language (e.g., Python)
- Elementary skill level in statistical modeling and statistical computing packages (e.g., R)
- ML Platform (e.g., Databricks) experience
- Must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong collaboration and organizational skills, including the ability to navigate cross-business functions
- Excellent time management skills including the ability to prioritize multiple projects / work streams
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
