Position: Manager in Training

Hours: 40 Weekly

Manager in Training

As Manager in Training, you apply Lush’s Leadership Practices—Be Real, Be Curious, Lead Fearlessly, Adapt and Evolve, Grow Talent, and Live with Purpose—in all interactions with customers, staff, and operations. The MIT supports the Store Manager and takes on management duties as needed to maintain a strong customer experience, staff experience, operational excellence, and sales goals.

Responsibilities

Sales & Customer Experience

  • Collaborate with the team to exceed daily sales goals and create a unique, inclusive customer experience that makes every visitor feel welcome.
  • Educate customers and staff on brand values:
    Fighting Animal Testing, Freshest Cosmetics, Ethical Buying, 100% Vegetarian, Handmade, and Naked Packaging.
  • Deepen product knowledge continually to provide informed, personalized recommendations.
  • Demonstrate strong business acumen, using metrics, budgets, and reports to drive profitable results.

Team Leadership

  • Lead Fearlessly:
    Be present on the sales floor, answer questions, remove obstacles, problem‑solve, and motivate the team to meet sales goals.
  • Grow Talent:
    Own your development, assess performance, seek feedback, and coach the team to elevate skills and knowledge.
  • Be Real:
    Communicate needs and feedback, remain adaptable to business demands.
  • Live with

    Purpose:

    Engage the team at all levels, inspire motivation, and foster strong peer and customer relationships aligned with brand values.
  • Recruitment & Selection:
    Support shop staffing by networking, recruiting, hiring, and succession planning.
  • Staff Development:
    Collaborate with the Manager to create engagement, retention, performance, and DEIB initiatives.

Operational Excellence

  • Policies & Procedures:
    Ensure compliance with company standards for opening, closing, product integrity, respectful workplace, health & safety, and daily communication.
  • Stock & Inventory:
    Train inventory team on fresh standards and rotation rules, manage ordering within budget to keep the right products available.
  • Visuals & Merchandising:
    Guide the team to maintain a clean, beautiful environment and follow merchandising and design standards to enhance customer experience and sales.
  • Scheduling, Time & Attendance:
    Schedule appropriate staffing levels and skill sets, allocate breaks and meals, record attendance for well‑being and payroll accuracy.
Qualifications

Required

  • 1–3 years of retail management or supervision
  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and troubleshooting abilities
  • Organizational and time‑management skills
  • Customer‑service, supervisory, and sales skills
  • Knowledge and interest in skincare, natural beauty, and ethical business
  • Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, holidays, and other shop needs

Preferred

  • Experience with consultation‑based customer service models
  • Ability to develop and train staff through coaching and feedback
  • Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Office, and adaptability to other systems
  • Basic HR skills: hiring, scheduling, training, performance management
  • Cross‑cultural collaboration experience and DEIB or social justice training
  • Fluency in Spanish, French, or other languages
