The Ahuja SDU is a 16-bed surgical and medical intermediate care floor. We care for patients with complex medical and surgical needs who have downgraded from a critical need but still need close monitoring. The team consists of highly skilled nurses, providers, advanced practice nurses, patient care assistants, and other ancillary staff who are dedicated to caring for patients and families.

Our Step Down nurses are trained to care for cardiac patients post procedure, such as post‑heart cath, post ablation, and post cath with TR band. The team strives to provide the highest quality of care to our patients and families. Nurse‑to‑patient ratio is 1 to 4.

Pre/Post Cardiac Surgery, Pre/Post heart cath, and Ablations, Vascular surgery, Thoracic surgery, STEMI, Sepsis, Renal Failure, Respiratory Failure, Gastric bleeding, Overdose, and Alcohol Withdrawal.

• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

• Other Accredited Program:
  Diploma in Nursing or (ADN) Associate’s Degree in Nursing (Required)
• (BSN) Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Preferred)
• (MN) Master in Nursing (Preferred)

• Knowledge of nursing process and practice. (Required proficiency)
• Uses a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed clinical therapies (ie. stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers and electronic monitoring devices. (Required proficiency)

• Registered Nurse (RN), Ohio and/or Multi State Compact License (Required Upon Hire) and
• Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required Upon Hire)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) May be required based on the clinical care standards of the unit.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) May be required based on the clinical care standards of the unit.
