POSITION OBJECTIVE

We are seeking a compassionate, organized School Nurse to support the physical, mental, and emotional well‑being of students. The School Nurse provides direct healthcare services, promotes wellness education, manages student health records, and responds to medical emergencies while helping maintain a safe and healthy school environment. The nurse ensures compliance with Ohio health regulations, and partners closely with families, faculty, and staff.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS
  • Provide first aid and emergency care for students
  • Administer daily medications according to physician orders
  • Care for students' acute issues, communicate with parents as needed
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns and care plans
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers, counselors, and school staff to support student wellness
  • Maintain student emergency contact records
  • Ensure compliance with state health regulations, reporting, immunization requirements, and school policies
  • Support attendance initiatives by addressing health‑related barriers to learning
  • Maintain inventory of health office supplies and equipment
  • Communicate with division heads and/or social workers with any concerns for students
  • Schedule and communicate with divisions lice checks at appropriate times
  • Maintain updated emergency medications, communicate with parents as needed
  • Confirm foods provided by school are safe for students with food allergies
  • Provide and maintain lists of students with food allergies to appropriate divisions and teachers
  • Maintain AEDs Equipment
  • Schedule and perform hearing and vision screenings within allotted time frame
  • Setup the “clinic” and maintain supplies in nurse's office
  • Provide teachers emergency forms, first aid kit and emergency medications for field trips as appropriate
  • Lice checks at appropriate times of the year
  • Perform and support health screenings; hearing and vision screenings (K, 1, 3, 5, 7th vision only, 9th, 11th and all students new to the School)
  • Maintain eye chart, ensure that it is up to date and have audiometer calibrated
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by administration
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development activities as needed
CONTACTS

Regular contact with students across all grade levels, school administration, teachers and parents. Contact with public health and service providers as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

None

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with children and adolescents
  • Previous experience in pediatric, school, community, or public health nursing preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Successful completion of background check and any required clearances
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is strongly preferred
REQUIRED SKILLS, LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound clinical judgment

  • Proficiency with electronic health records and basic computer systems
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and healthcare professionals
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies in a calm and effective manner
  • Ability to lift or assist students when necessary
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a school health office and educational environment. Requires standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting of students.

HOURS/COMPENSATION

Full‑time with competitive benefits. This is a 10 months position;
Monday – Thursday, 8:00 am – 3:30 pm and Friday 8:00 am – 2:30 pm. Salary is commensurate with education and experience
