Shortage Control Associate

Join our team and help maintain a safe and welcoming shopping environment by preventing theft and supporting customers and associates. You will be the first line of defense at store entrances, exits, and high‑risk areas, guiding interactions with a confident presence, friendly greeting, and a warm smile.

Key Responsibilities
  • Stand positioned at the front of the store, remaining vigilant and aware of your surroundings.
  • Greet every customer entering or exiting the store with a warm smile and a loud, friendly greeting, promoting a sense of control and security.
  • Create a secure environment and reduce opportunities for theft.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times, wearing the designated dress standards, radio and earpiece.
  • Effectively communicate information about theft prevention during store rallies, collaborating with the Manager on Duty.
  • Conduct bag and package checks on store and corporate associates, ensuring adherence to safety and security standards.
  • Identify and report theft incidents or suspicious behavior to the Manager on Duty.
  • Provide support in training associates on shortage reduction programs and processes.
  • Role model safety as a top priority and address any unsafe practices promptly.
  • Review, analyze, and comprehend business trends to support theft‑reduction initiatives.
Qualifications
  • 1+ year of experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, asset protection, loss prevention, or operations (preferred).
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to visually monitor the store environment.
  • Strong communication skills with customers and co‑workers.
  • Exceptional leadership ability that supports fostering productive business relationships.
  • Strong posture, positive demeanor, and energetic greeting.
  • Discipline, awareness of surroundings, and commitment to maintaining safety and security standards.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment with detailed focus and disciplined decision making.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Benefits & Compensation
  • Competitive wage: $13.00 per hour.
  • Flexible schedule with part‑time associates eligible for Burlington’s benefits package (medical coverage and 401(k) plan) based on hours worked.
  • Part‑time associates may earn up to 4 hours of paid time off annually after one year of service, up to 8 paid holidays, and paid sick time in accordance with applicable law.
