The position is held in the NYS Office of Mental Health unit within a medium security correctional facility, under the supervision of Central New York Psychiatric Center (CNYPC). This role requires a Registered Nurse for medication administration and management. Once selected, candidates will be required to send a copy of their current license, registration, and background check. Proof of TB testing and a recent flu shot must also be submitted.
Candidates will undergo CNYPC orientation and Department of Corrections and Community Service (DOCCS) orientation.
- Receive a verbal report from the nurse who worked the satellite unit upon arrival.
- Process MD orders, including inputting orders into CNET, printing updated MARs, and verifying new MARs with a second RN.
- Administer medication to patients in various units, including RCTP OB, RCTP Dorm, Long-term care, infirmary, SHU/RRU, Reception unit, and General population incarcerated individuals (GP).
- Document medications given and refused.
- Perform control and tool count with a second nurse.
- Ensure stock medication accountability by counting stock medications and documenting them on the appropriate form.
- Assess patients brought to the satellite unit and admit to RCTP if needed, documenting on the RCTP admission form.
- Document RCTP nursing progress notes.
Hours vary to accommodate the needs of the unit and may include every other weekend. Holidays may be required to ensure proper staff coverage. The exact shift and days will be determined during the interview.
