This is a part‑time temporary position with a 6‑10 hour workweek. The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for supporting up to 20 students in English, Mathematics, and Reading skills through individualized classroom and/or online instruction. The role includes creating data‑driven learning plans, monitoring progress, and assisting students in meeting GED® requirements.
Essential Functions- Provide online program expectations to students at entry into the class for Zoom sessions. Students should receive an email, Zoom link, or phone call with important course information before the class begins.
- Develop individualized support and educational planning. Use assessment data (CASAS pre‑ and post‑scores) to guide students to targeted supports—text‑based and online materials.
- Support students with appropriate study advice. Advise on materials, resources, and course adjustments.
- Maintain accurate records and support retention efforts. Record attendance, encourage students to keep attendance logs, and contact non‑attenders.
- Arrange or proctor post‑testing. Coordinate CASAS testing and review results.
- Support GED® assessment preparation. Assist students in scheduling assessments with and obtaining practice test vouchers.
- Instruct in ESL, Math, and Reading. Provide instruction at K‑12 levels, enhance text‑based and online activities, and recommend materials to meet student goals.
- Complete professional development. Meet the minimum of 8 hours of required professional development annually.
- Promote a Culture of Belonging. Foster an inclusive environment aligned with college policies on access and fair employment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Work varied days, hours, shifts, and locations as required by the college.
Skills and Abilities
- Experience instructing adults, secondary students, or in adult education settings.
- Proficiency with computers and online learning platforms.
- Ability to teach English, Math, and Language Arts from K-12 levels.
- Experience working with non‑native speakers of English.
- Experience in multilingual and multi‑level classrooms.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for short distances.
- Capacity to demonstrate required job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Bachelor’s degree in any field.
- Previous teaching experience.
- Enthusiastic and adaptive teaching style with a passion for adult learners.
- Experience with ESL curriculum preferred.
