Director, Residential Student Experience - FT
Under the general direction and supervision of the Dean of Student Development, the Director, Residential Student Experience provides leadership, management, and direction for comprehensive College-wide Residence Life operations. In this role, the Director is responsible for providing a robust residential program that contributes to the overall student experience and to the College's mission. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining an inclusive residential learning environment that is conducive to the overall development of residence hall students.
The Director works closely with the Director, Residential Operations, to ensure a cohesive, well-supported residential environment for all students. This is a full-time regular position requiring regular travel to all three campuses.
Knowledge of current educational trends, student development theory, residential life philosophy, and housing operations on a college campus. Demonstrated effectiveness in overseeing a robust residence life program. Ability to organize, develop, and implement student development programs for the benefit of the residential students. Ability to manage multiple levels of professional and student staff. Experience in budgeting, strategic planning, program and outcomes assessment, and crisis management.
Ability to help students with college adjustment-related concerns and make appropriate referrals to the college or community resources as necessary. Capacity to manage stress and maintain personal and emotional stability in a demanding work environment. Effective interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated commitment to diversity and to creating a welcoming environment. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, parents, administration, and students.
Teamwork skills and ability/skills to communicate effectively with groups and individuals in problem resolution. Ability to apply fair and equitable disciplinary sanctions upon students who have violated established policy. Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and in person, and on the phone. Strong organizational skills, with a demonstrated attention to detail. Competent with technology and able to learn new systems.
Knowledge and ability to use a computer for word processing, database management, email, and other administrative functions. Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff and student employees, including the ability to set clear performance expectations and hold staff accountable fairly and equitably. Ability to work collaboratively across divisions and departments, building effective working relationships with the campus. Strong organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and a track record of following through on complex, multi-step operational processes.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop clear procedural documentation, communicate operational expectations to diverse audiences, and produce accurate reports for institutional leadership. Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and crises, including after-hours and weekend response as required. Ability to work varied days, hours, and locations across multiple campuses and to travel regularly between the Beatrice, Lincoln, and Milford campuses as required.
Demonstrated commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming residential environment for all students, staff, and campus partners. Ability to facilitate strategic planning and program assessment, including the use of co-curricular assessment tools to evaluate programming effectiveness and student outcomes. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies governing student conduct, Title IX, CAREteam protocols, and residential student welfare. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
Ability to use basic computer skills. Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.
Bachelor's Degree in education, business, human resources, human development theory, counseling, psychology, sociology, or a related field. Two (2) or more years of experience working with students in a college residence life environment.
Master's Degree in education, administration, business, human resources, human development theory, counseling, psychology, sociology, or a related field. Two (2) years of residence hall leadership experience in a collegiate setting. Experience with professional staff supervision, budgeting process, housing software, and student conduct processes.
$57,185 per year
