School Lunch Program Floater (Full-Time)
Position Summary
Beatrice Public School Lunch Program is a full-time position responsible for supporting meal service operations between elementary and high schools within the district. This role serves as a flexible team member who can work in all areas of the school kitchen, filling in as needed to ensure smooth daily operations. The Floater must be adaptable, dependable, and willing to learn all aspects of the school nutrition program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Rotate between assigned schools to support kitchen operations as needed
- Learn and perform all positions within the school kitchen, including:
- Food preparation and cooking
- Serving students during meal periods
- Cashier/POS system operation
- Offer Versus Serve (OVS) requirements, as applicable
- Dishwashing and kitchen sanitation
- Receiving and storing food and supplies
- Follow standardized recipes and portion control guidelines
- Ensure compliance with USDA regulations, food safety standards, and district policies
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, equipment, and storage areas
- Assist with inventory control and proper food storage
- Work collaboratively with kitchen staff, director , and school administration
- Provide coverage for absences, staff shortages, or increased workload
- Support special meal accommodations (allergies, special diets) as required
- Model professionalism and positive interactions with students and staff
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous food service experience preferred (school nutrition experience a plus)
- Strong reliability, flexibility, and adaptability
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting and bending
- Ability and willingness to learn all aspects of school nutrition operations
- Must pass background check and meet district employment requirements
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for travel between schools
Full-time position
Schedule may vary depending on school needs and assignments
- Elementary school hours will be 6:30am-2:30 pm
- High school hours will be 7am-3 pm
Work locations will rotate among multiple schools within the district
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday
