The purpose of this position is to maintain the records of the Family Court. This class works under close supervision according to established procedures.

Examples of Duties
  • Clocks-in, verifies, scans and files official documentation into case file.
  • Assists, answer questions and interacts with fellow employees, judges, attorney general, attorneys, law enforcement, public defender, general public and others associated with cases.
  • Screens all communications and requests from individuals seeking the Judge, either in person, by telephone or through the mail, to ascertain the reason for the contact and determine if the matter is appropriate for the Judge’s consideration.
  • Provides the public guidance on how to proceed or refer to the appropriate person(s) as it applies to the situation.
  • Performs clerical work as directed by the Judges or Court Administrator.
  • Provides front desk assistance with Public Defender applications, and defendant payments and provides information for inquiring public.
  • Process new cases, files court documents, index and scan; prepare necessary documents for attorneys, pro se, and GAL.
  • Types various documents.
  • Process and maintains DR and JU records.
  • Interpret court orders and enter information into FCCMS and PACSS.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Research problems, processes requests, and respond by phone or email.
  • Process payments and generate receipts.
  • Provide transmittal for submitting records to and retrieving records from records management.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
Requirements Typical Qualifications
  • Requires an Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
  • Over one month and up to and including three months of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Supplemental Information

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
