POSITION
PURPOSE:
The Numeracy Coach will empower teachers by working directly with all stakeholders to bring about improvements in the classroom/school that will positively impact student achievement. The work of the numeracy coach will be based on scientifically based research and content knowledge.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist teachers in analyzing data in order to provide differentiation, track trends, support instructional decisions and plan lessons.
- Work with teachers to create and interpret formative and summative assessments.
- Plan collaboratively with teachers on a regular basis to insure that:
- Everyday Mathematics/SC Mathematics Standards are taught with fidelity; paced appropriately
- Teachers are familiar with the SC Standards and Support Documents
- Differentiation is occurring in the classroom
- Increase teachers' awareness of instructional resources and how to use them effectively.
- Provide professional development for teachers on research based instructional strategies, content and pedagogy;
Plan opportunities for horizontal and vertical articulation to occur; provide training on district programs such as Gizmos, Everyday Mathematics, Curriculum Mapping, Number Worlds, graphing calculators - Co‑teach/model lessons with/for teachers.
- Serve as a liaison between school and district; collaborate with coaches from other schools.
- Observe teachers in a coaching capacity to provide feedback and support instruction.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Chief Instructional Services Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a valid South Carolina teaching or be able to obtain one within 60 days from being hired.
- Must be Highly Qualified in the content area or be able to become Highly Qualified within 60 days from being hired.
EXPERIENCE:
- Three to five years experience as a Math/Science teacher or elementary grade level preferred.
