Nursing Instructor

Job Purpose

The Nursing Instructor is responsible to the Dean of School of Nursing for the delivery of quality instruction and management of students enrolled in nursing courses in the Nursing Program. Responsibilities occur in the areas of instructional development, teaching performance, student advisement, professional development, college and/or community service, and instructional management.

• Work with members of the Nursing Advisory Committee to participate in planning for new and existing programs and courses.
• Assist in the development of nursing curricula for students in nursing programs.
• Evaluate courses in the nursing curriculum.
• Assist in the refinement of curricula for nursing courses.

• Teach courses as assigned and in accordance with the established syllabi.
• Provide high quality instruction for students in the nursing program using varied instructional delivery techniques including clinical rotations.
• Evaluate the accomplishments of students on a regular basis.
• Participate in the Faculty Performance Management System.
• Achieve at least a 3.5 on student evaluations and satisfactory peer/supervisor evaluations.

• Advise and maintain records of assigned student advisees in accordance with division policies and procedures.
• Provide effective academic advisement for students enrolled in the Nursing Program by using the services of staff specialists and coordinators.
• Maintain office hours as required and needed by students, faculty, and advisees.

• Represent the Division and College by participating in community and professional activities.
• Participate in professional continuing education opportunities.
• Maintain a current awareness of educational innovations and trends appropriate to nursing education.

• Actively participate in activities to select, recruit, admit, and retain students.
• Maintain contacts with appropriate professional and community organizations/individuals in the College service area.
• Serve actively on College committees.
• Participate in Division of Health Sciences meetings as assigned.

• Maintain proper control and effective use of all physical facilities and supplies in the assigned division.
• Prepare reports in cooperation with division dean for input into the planning/reporting system.
• Insure communication of policies, procedures, and campus information to all students.
• Perform additional duties, as assigned by the division dean and nursing program director.

Minimum of a Masters of Science in Nursing required, minimum three years clinical experience required and two years teaching experience preferred. Recent acute care experience preferred.
