Position

Purpose:

To facilitate the provisions of special education services in assigned schools or programs within the Beaufort County School District.

Essential Functions
  • Must have knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the job; knowledge of applicable local, state and federal regulations and guidelines; knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained; knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities; has thorough and comprehensive knowledge of current research in programs for students with disabilities procedures, legal issues, instruction and assessment.
  • Must have the ability to coordinate the design, development, and implementation of the district's programs for students with disabilities; ability to operate general office equipment in the performance of daily activities; ability to identify the accomplishments, needs and problems of the program; ability to interact in an effective manner with building level administration, teachers, district staff, parents, etc.; ability to prepare and maintain required records and reports;

    ability to stay abreast of current research in programs for students with disabilities and related issues; ability to interpret and apply information and issues pertaining to programs for students with disabilities; and the ability to use technology to enhance communication and deliver of support documents.
  • Assist the Director of Special Education Services in planning, monitoring, and evaluating special education services and procedures.
  • Coordinates with the building level administrators to ensure appropriate supplemental and related services are provided to students with disabilities.
  • At the request of the building level administrator, ensures compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Assist in the data collection for district, state and federal reporting.
  • Collaborates with administrators, regular education teachers, and special education teachers to facilitate the inclusion of students with disabilities in the total school environment as appropriate.
  • Plan and conduct high quality professional development for all instructional staff, parents, administrators, and others on topics relevant to the education of students with disabilities.
  • Assists teachers to ensure that appropriate instructional practices and appropriate curricula are identified, accessed and utilized for students with disabilities.
  • Collaborates with the building level administrators to develop and implement appropriate site-based strategies for resolving problem areas relative to programs for students with disabilities.
  • At the request of the building level administrator provides technical assistance to administrators, staff, school faculties, parents, related service providers and others relative to all instructional/related service issues in reference to special education; to include addressing parents concerns and questions.
  • Coordinate sequential programming between the various instructional levels to ensure smooth transitions from grade to grade and school to school.
  • Assists with implementing district strategic plan priorities.
  • Remains informed of educational improvements and best practices; provides consultation and advice with other District administrators as needed.
  • Attend district, regional, state, and national meeting and conferences as required for professional and program development.
  • Collaborates with the Coordinator of Recruitment and Retention, assists in the recruitment and retention of highly qualified special educators and professionally licensed related service providers.
  • Effectively operates technology; and
  • Conducts other activities and oversee project implementation as determined appropriate by the Director of Special Education Services.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and laws.
  • Other supervisory duties as required by the Director of Special Education Services.

Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director II of Special Education, Chief Instructional Services Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
