This position can be filled as an Automotive Technician Apprentice II, Automotive Tech or Automotive Technician Sr. depending on qualifying candidate's experience.
JOB QUALIFICATIONSPerform all tasks and meet experience, special qualifications, and physical qualifications for the Automotive Technician Apprentice 1 and those listed for Apprentice 2 for all Entergy owned, leased, and rented equipment. Lead or assist in the more complex repairs and maintenance of all Entergy owned, leased, and rented equipment. Perform the following and related tasks with Class 3 supervision and assist in more complicated tasks with a qualified automotive hydraulic technician, qualified supervisor, or qualified manufacturer or vendor representative (e.g., Altec, ITL).
Travel safely to the job site in an Entergy vehicle and work with customers to complete tasks with minimal interruption to line activity.
Must be qualified to:
- Use diagnostic tools and schematics to identify and correct issues with electrical systems, engine, transmission, and aerial systems on all Entergy owned, leased, or rented equipment. Have general ability to read codes and perform function tests and interpret results.
- Possess basic automotive electrical knowledge and use a DVOM (Digital Volt-Ohm Meter) for voltage, resistance, and continuity testing.
- Make all necessary and routine repairs to internal combustion engines, exhaust systems, and emission control systems, including the use of manufacturer‑specific tools.
- Make all chassis‑related repairs to steering and suspension systems.
- Search electronic sources for equipment identification information, inspection and repair procedures, fluid capacities, and torque specifications (e.g., FLEET, manufacturer websites, online manuals).
- Accurately use task‑specific mechanical tools (e.g., torque wrench, dial indicator, dial caliper).
- Diagnose and repair automotive HVAC systems properly.
- Have basic cutting, welding, and fabrication skills.
- Be accompanied by an Automotive Hydraulic Technician during off‑system storm response.
- Meet all qualifications, experience, and special qualifications for an Automotive Technician Apprentice 1.
- Have worked for at least two years as an Automotive Technician Apprentice 1, or have had equivalent experience in related work, or hold automotive or related certification from an accredited institution.
- Complete all manufacturer computer‑based training within 12 months as assigned by Fleet Management.
- Hold IFPS certification.
- New hires at Apprentice 2 level or above must obtain IFPS certification within 6 months of employment. Company pays for up to 2 certification attempts and related time. Employees may attempt as many times as desired at their own expense; company reimburses testing costs only for successful passes beyond the initial three attempts. Additional attempts beyond three may be considered by management.
- Obtain automotive HVAC certification within 12 months through an EPA‑approved source such as ASE or MACS.
- Complete manufacturing bucket, digger, and PDM training in classroom settings when available.
- Be willing and able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Meet all equipment weight qualifications, including aerial bucket weight restrictions.
- Meet all personal qualifications for the Apprentice 1 Technician position.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Perform all tasks and meet experience, special qualifications, and physical qualifications for the Automotive Technician Apprentice 2 and the Automotive Technician Sr. for all Entergy owned, leased, and rented equipment. Lead or assist in more complex repairs and maintenance. Perform tasks with Class 3 supervision and latitude for planning and detailing. Assist with less skilled employees. Work with other qualified technicians, supervisors, or manufacturers/vendors.
