TxDOT’s Beaumont District is looking to add to our team of dedicated Construction Inspectors. This role inspects construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications. The inspector acts as a consultant regarding work progress, problem resolution, and may serve as the only inspector on a construction project or assist in overseeing construction inspection activities for large or complex projects within a district.

• Calculate payments due contractors for work completed.
• Consult with Project Engineers, resident project representatives and contractors’ superintendents on work progress and construction problems; review equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.
• Ensure adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects and that material tests are performed and meet required standards.
• Drive to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges and related highway structures and airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Monitor project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans and ensure compliance with approved safety standards; inspect barricades as required.
• Observe and inspect ongoing construction work.
• Perform drafting, design and surveying work.
• Assist in engineering‑related data collection, inspections, assessments, analysis, and review activities for plan development by others.
• Train and mentor less experienced inspectors on work methods.
• Document work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project.

• Attend pre‑construction meetings and answer questions from contractors and other attendees.
• Assist in planning and coordinating office operations.
• Review construction records, inspection reports and audit records to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Mentor and develop technical employees in test and inspection procedures and material specifications.
• Handle problem calls from producers, suppliers, inspectors and construction project field personnel.
• Observe and inspect ongoing construction work.

• High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
• Construction Inspector I:
  No experience required.
• Construction Inspector II: 1 year construction, construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, materials or process inspection; or transportation engineering support related experience.
• Construction Inspector III: 2 years construction, construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, materials or process inspection; or transportation engineering support related experience.
• Valid driver’s license; driving of state vehicle required.
