Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum Student Assistant
The Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum is seeking a motivated and dependable student assistant to support daily operations. This position is limited to students who are Federal Work-Study eligible. Responsibilities include engaging with museum visitors, assisting with exhibits, helping at events, and providing excellent customer service in the gift shop.
Position Responsibilities- Greet visitors, sell tickets, and share museum information
- Operate the gift shop, including cash register operations and cash handling
- Prepare and close daily sales deposits
- Assist with museum tours and orientations
- Represent the museum at events and support event coordination
- Monitor exhibits for environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, pests)
- Lightly clean and maintain museum spaces (gift shop, lecture hall, buildings, restrooms)
- Assist with grounds upkeep and custodial duties as needed
- Report issues to the Director or the appropriate LU department
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Must be a current Lamar University student
- Must be Federal Work-Study eligible (as determined by Financial Aid)
- Dependable, prompt, and able to follow directions
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and independently
- Ability to stand for extended periods, indoors and outdoors
- Must be able to lift and move 30+ pounds (tables, chairs, supplies)
- May be exposed to variable weather during events or groundskeeping
- Experience with customer service, cash handling, or gift shop operations
- Experience using a cash register
