Federal Study; Gladys Museum

The Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum is seeking a motivated and dependable Student Assistant to support daily operations. This position is limited to students who are Federal Work-Study eligible.

• Engaging with museum visitors
• Assisting with exhibits and collections
• Helping at events
• Providing excellent customer service in the gift shop.
• Able to follow instructions and perform assignments efficiently, independently, and effectively
• Able to work in both a group setting and alone with minimum supervision
• Availability to work varied shifts, mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to work quickly, effectively, and responsibly without constant direction
• Comfortable working around children and large crowds

• High School Diploma

• Must be a current Lamar University student
• Must be Federal Work-Study eligible (as determined by Financial Aid)
• Dependable, prompt, and able to follow directions
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and independently
• Ability to stand for extended periods, indoors and outdoors
• Must be able to lift and move 30+ pounds (tables, chairs, supplies)
• May be exposed to variable weather during events or groundskeeping

• Experience with customer service, cash handling, or gift shop operations
• Experience using a cash register

The work environment includes indoor and outdoor spaces, exposure to a wide variance of temperatures, exposure to dust and debris, and exposure to cleaning agents.
