PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

To assist the RDSPD Director with supervising the Southeast Texas Regional Day School Program for the Deaf to provide services for all students who qualify under the Deaf and Hard of Hearing eligibility from birth to 22 in SETX RDSPD member districts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

* Master's Degree

* Texas Certificate in Teaching Deaf/Hard of Hearing

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

* Knowledge and skills in the use of sign language

* Knowledge of Deaf Culture

* Effective interpersonal skills

Experience:

* Five (5) years of work experience in deaf education

MAJOR

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Instructional Management

* Attend A.R.D. meetings as the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) representative in member districts for DHH students who are receiving consult services or are not receiving any direct RDSPD services.

* Provide support for staffing of students for all IEP meetings in regard to goals and objectives, proposed schedules, and state assessment for site-based classrooms.

* Attend IEP meetings as needed.

* Consult with classroom teachers regarding assistive listening devices, modifications and accommodations.

* Assist with the management of referrals that come into the office including the gathering of information, conducting assessments, attending IEP meetings, and consulting with the Supervisor.

* Assist with providing academic support for all itinerant and classroom teachers in accessing the general education curriculum, specifically in the areas of reading and writing.

* Substitute for classroom teachers when needed.

* Assist with facilitating team meetings with classroom and itinerant teachers to address accessing the curriculum.

* Assist campuses and teachers with the administration of state assessments.

* Be knowledgeable about graduation options, plans, and transitional services for students during high school and upon graduation.

School/Organizational Improvement

* Assist RDSPD Director with planning and conducting appropriate professional development opportunities for RDSPD personnel.

* Assist RDSPD Director with ensuring that curriculum support is continuous and responsive to student needs.

* Assist RDSPD Director with ensuring appropriate programming is directed toward improvement of student achievement.

Personnel Management

* Assist RDSPD Director in recruiting, interviewing, and making recommendations for employment of RDSPD personnel.

* Assist RDSPD Director with developing and coordinating schedules for interpreters and teachers and secure interpreter substitutes when needed through outside agencies and/or use of RDSPD staff.

* Confer with building administrators and other appropriate personnel concerning the assignment of RDSPD staff.

* Assist with mentoring new staff members.

Student Management

* Assist RDSPD Director with monitoring the development, implementation, and evaluation of Individual Educational Programs (IEP).

* Support the development and implementation of classroom and individual behavior plans for improved student behavior which reflects enhanced opportunities for learning.

* Assist with modeling the use of behavior systems in the classroom when needed.

* Assist RDSPD Director with ensuring that student/personnel services are effective in supporting the learning process and student achievement.

School/Community Relations

* Assist RDSPD Director with ensuring that RDSPD PEIMS information is recorded accurately in all member districts.

* Assist RDSPD Director with providing a variety of opportunities for family involvement.

Professional Growth and Development

* Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality professional development opportunities for personal growth.

* Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district and department goals.

* Perform all duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner.
