Job Summary

The Phillip M. Drayer Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Lamar University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Electrical Engineering, beginning Fall 2026.

We seek candidates who will develop a vigorous, externally funded research program and excel in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We are looking for candidates with expertise in Power Systems, including butnot limited to:

* Power system stability, protection, planning, optimization, and control;

* Electric machines;

* Power electronics;

* Distributed energy resources, smart grids, and grid modernization.

The successful candidate will:

* Teach core and elective courses in electrical engineering at the undergraduate and graduate levels;

* Supervise student projects, theses, and dissertations;

* Establish and maintain an impactful research program;

* Collaborate with university, industry, and government partners;

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching, research, and service missions of the department.

Teaching:

* Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical engineering, in alignment with the department's curriculum and educational goals. Provide effective instruction, academic advising, and mentorship to students. Utilize innovative teaching practices to promote student engagement and learning.

Research:

* Establish and maintain an independent, externally funded research program in an area relevant to electrical engineering. Conduct impactful research, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and present findings at national and international conferences. Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations and pursue partnerships with industry, government agencies, and academic institutions.

Service:

* Contribute to the department, college, and university through committee work, curriculum development, and participation in accreditation efforts. Support outreach and recruitment initiatives and represent the department at professional events and in community engagement activities. Participate in academic governance and contribute to the advancement of the discipline.

Essential Job Functions

* Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in chemical or biomolecular engineering, aligned with the department's curriculum and learning objectives. Provide effective instruction, mentorship, and academic advising to students. Employ innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance student learning outcomes.

* Establish and lead an independent, externally funded research program in an area of chemical or biomolecular engineering. Conduct high-impact research, publish scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals, and present findings at national and international conferences. Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams and pursue partnerships with industry and government agencies.

* Contribute to departmental, university, and professional activities, including committee assignments, curriculum development, accreditation processes, and outreach initiatives. Participate in academic governance, engage in community service, and represent the department at professional conferences and events.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:

* Undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees from an accredited university in electrical engineering or a closely related field. (The Ph.D. must be completed by Aug. 2026.)

* Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research;

* Evidence of the ability to attract external funding;

* Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desired

Qualifications:

* Experience teaching electrical engineering courses, especially in power systems;

* Experience writing competitive research proposals and securing external funding;

* Relevant industrial experience or postdoctoral research experience.

Physical Requirements:

* Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks, including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings.
